BMW has a long history of engine, aircraft and motorcycle production, moving into executive and luxury car models in the 1960s. Since that time, the brand has become known for performance and premium quality. The German manufacturer also owns the Mini and Rolls-Royce brands.
BMW has a range of models that offer low fuel consumption and emissions. The manufacturer has developed the popular EfficientDynamics programme to drive down fuel economy and emissions, while the i3 and i8 models, with their electric drivetrains, offer something for those wanting a BMW EV (electric vehicle).
The entry point to the BMW range is the 1 Series, a premium hatchback available in three or five-door body styles. The 2 Series is a small coupe with two doors, also available as a convertible. And for those wanting more versatility and an alternative to small SUVs and estates, there’s the 2 Series Active and Gran Tourer models.
The 3 Series remains the most popular model, available in saloon, touring (estate), and Gran Turismo derivatives. The M3 saloon adds increased power and upgraded driving dynamics.
The 4 Series was introduced as a separate model line from the 3 Series and is available in Coupe, Gran Coupe (the coupe with four doors) and convertible form, again with a performance M model in the shape of the M4.
The 5 Series (with a new model launching in early 2017) is a large executive saloon also available as an estate in the form of the 5 Series Touring. Diesel 5 Series models are popular with the contract hire market due to the premium image, refined nature and good economy, all resulting in competitive Benefit-in-Kind rates.
Sitting above the 5 Series is the 6 Series range, available with a hard-top (with two or four doors, the latter referred to as the Gran Coupe) or drop-top. Again, performance M models are available but most business and leasing customers will be attracted to diesel models.
BMW also has a luxury saloon in the form of the 7 Series that combines high levels of performance, technology and excellent quality.
For two-seater open air motoring, BMW offers the the Z4, now with a folding hard-top that replaces previous roadster and coupe models.
To meet customer demand, BMW offers a range of off-road models in various sizes, from the smallest X1 right through the range to the larger X5 and X6 models.
